Desert
Trails B&B features
original paintings by Tucson painter and astronomer, William K. Hartmann.
Hartmann is known internationally for his paintings of astronomical subjects.
They have been used in books by Carl Sagan, in Hartmann's own books, on
magazine covers from Natural History to the London Economist, and in exhibitions
from Smithsonian's Air and Space museum to international shows in Moscow,
Yalta, and Montreux.
Less known are Hartmanns paintings of the Tucson area and the greater Southwest. Most of these have been painted primarily outdoors, on site. Hartmann has painted in the Rincon, Catalina, and Tucson mountains around the city of Tucson, and also at sites such as the Grand Canyon, and the Pinacate volcanic desert on the Arizona/Sonora border. The paintings are for sale at modest prices, typically in the range of $500-$1500. Recently, Hartmann has been donating a portion (about 10-25%) of the sale price of these paintings to establish a fund to support travel of graduate students in planetary science to attend the annual professional meeting of the American Astronomical Society planetary science division, and to support other projects in planetary science research.
