A new floor
We should have done this a long time ago. The sanded and finished floor in the great room looks so much better. Furniture will follow soon.

Pool is open
Our first visitors went for an early morning swim. No towels needed, just dried of in the sun. Pool temperature 70 F (21 C) and it will only get warmer.

It was cold in the desert
This is what cactus looks like after a hard freeze. The high yesterday was 34 F and the low last night 9 F. Not to worry, by Sunday we’ll be back to warm Arizona weather.

Ladder-backed woodpecker
Our newest nice bird picture. A female ladder-back who doesn’t mind us or the dogs. Right over our head in the mesquite trees. The leaves are gone, a good time to watch the birds.

Screech Owls at the Front Door
Western Screech Owls have taken over the courtyard. We have one year round resident but he/she appears to have found a mate and now there are three offspring. Purple Martins are nesting in the big saguaro next to the driveway.
Soldier Trail hike in the Catalinas
Soldier Trail is a demanding hike in the Santa Catalinas but the wildflowers are worth it: larkspur, penstemon, California poppies, and chickory among others.

Red-Winged Blackbirds
These birds showed up today. Rare in the winter and the first time for us to see them. Quite noisy, there were about 25 of them.
